crossing high altitude in the White Group
Nobody expected discounts for this mountaineering trip, that even for the distance traveled by car appeared challenging. And so it has been since day one, with a climb to the refuge Des Conscrits in 5 hours and full backpacks on their shoulders: ups and downs including some well-1500m in altitude! The last hundred meters even in the rain, for those who still did not understand that being trained here is an obligation. For the rest of the landscape green and beautiful, clean and shaded area of giant snow would give us memories. Refuge Des Conscrits, m. 2580, is warm, modern and clean, dinner is abundant and gives relief to our members, tired from the long climb of the day. We are heartened by the weather and the group remove the last doubts about the success of the climb among the last beers that run on the board before the curfew. The alarm clock is in the early hours of the night, the departure from the shelter at 4.15am. All seem to fit the column and sent forward, passing from time to time small groups of early risers. Soon we arrive at the foot of the glacier Trelat first jump, where we group together and put on crampons. Rope made and so on, until the plateau of ice that shows the slope of the hill at dawn, while the environment gives us energy to climb to the Col de Miage. From the first steps already guess what will be a crossing that is unique for its beautiful peaks that stand above the green valleys of Montjoie. The tour continues with the strings that stretch along the scenic route, each with its own pace, and the other between a top of the Dome, to meet finally back to the shelter. Enjoyed all rest on the top of Berangere after the last jump in altitude, between rocciette and unstable snow, then run straight down to the shelter. Bravi all off with beer and sandwich restaurant, to close one of those trips that they always say, "it was worth."
